India Last Week-Reality Check

I feel disgusted to see for the last few days the entire Indian media has been hijacked by a 3rd graded family murder story.CNN-IBN even named their news coverage as Sheena Bora-XFiles. Just to sum it up for those who are not aware it’s a case of a 2nd wife of her 3rd husband is charged along with her 2nd husband of killing her daughter from her 1st husband who was having an affair with her 3rd husband’s son from his 1st wife. No wonder India is getting Americanized 🙂 This is how the pathetic Indian media has become. The every reason to show a middle finger to our tabloid journalism. I mean are all the problems of our country sorted out that we are only left with a rich spoilt family’s murder mystery to solve? Even shocking if this sells then we have a bigger problem with the people of this nation too, who loves to somehow engage with Ekta Kapoor type family dramas extended to news channel now but turns a blind eye and deaf ear to the huge population who are poor and deprived.

When at one side veterans are going on hunger strike to get their OROP (One Rank One Pension) and on the other side each day in the J&K border, soldiers, civilians are dying. It feels a shame to watch how a filthy rich family has taken over all the different forms of media. Equally shocking is how the politicians were recently all in agreement to raise their salary by a whopping 100% hike without a fuss. Yet for the men who guarded our post and kept enemies at bay, have to undergo hunger strike to get their voices heard now.

On the other hand Modiji just completed his 11th edition of Mann ki Baat with so many good ideas for better India which I appreciate but doubt might remain as ideas only. This man seem man of words more than man of action to me. Again my personal view which may be wrong and I will be more than happy to be proven so in future. His idea of Swachh Bharat and Shauchalay (Toilet) for all was really wonderful. But then I watched a small youtube clipping from a village in North East (needless to say very poor) who said we don’t have enough to eat to make use of these toilets. I hope you can understand the pain and frustration in those words. When we are a fast growing and developing economy with 7-8% projected GDP we also stand 135th in the Human Development Index much lower than countries like Namibia, Equador and Mongolia. Check the link to get more details. http://hdr.undp.org/en/content/table-2-human-development-index-trends-1980-2013. As a nation we should be more focussed on the HDI than the GDP.

Just before this murder story took over Jasleen Kaur and Arnab Goswami (noise hour guy) almost proved in 1 Hr that most of the Indian urban youth are more or less pervert and potential rapists. They were simply not listening to the fact that even the accused’s version should be heard. The very next day we came to know about the other side of the story. Arnab till date has not apologised or conducted a second debate against Jasleen for the potential false allegation.

Amidst all these a 22 year old Hardik Patel is asking for reservation for the Patels (many of whom are doing excellent business both in India and abroad) or get rid of the reservation entirely.I mean that is the dark side of Hinduism. The very infamous caste system to which Gandhiji also supported has created such a dent that revolt like this are both at times logical and unavoidable. My personal view is indeed we should get rid of the caste system totally whatever the consequences may be. I don’t see any right of one human being having the right to categorize another human being inferior to him based on demarcation created by them. All the Dalits and lower caste are yet to get freedom though for some of us it happened in 1947

Some of you who follow my blog may think that I am a pessimist when it comes to India but let me put it this way. I am very much proud to be an Indian and optimistic but I cannot just ignore the problems we have to deal with. Apologies to all for adding to the Monday blues.
