Indian Media -Time to wake up and change!

Media be it electronic or print plays a pivotal role in bringing out the report card of our nation daily.

Hence, the importance of media becomes utmost in terms of nation building. However, after following close to 2 years most our Indian news channel, I am ashamed of our country’s media.

In short the news channel and newspapers have become hyper dramatic, less on contents, indisciplined and distorted reporting.

The reasons for hatred towards Indian media is also multifold. Here are some of them which I can think of. If anyone can prove me wrong I will be more than happy.

  1. Fresh from my memory wrt Yakub Memon hanging. Unfortunately Mr. Yakub stole the show against Dr. APJ Kalam on that day.Feel sorry not for the Indians at all but yes definitely to the Indian media as it was more important than easily the death of our Father of Modern India for them.
  1. The Nepal Earthquake incident. Again a very recent one but I clearly remember that the people of Nepal in general had written lot of open letters and shared their view about our Indian Media. They in short said Go Home Indian Media. Reason very simple. Too much of insensitive journalism. If you ask a person who has lost his home, family members “how do you feel now?” the rest is understood. That is a major part of our Indian media. They have to dramatize and sensationalize news. It’s all about the TRP race nothing else matters.
  1. In general when I used to watch the Times Now News Hour debate I lost my mental peace every time. It can be easily termed as Noise Hour. Moreover the anchor in the show consider himself the voice of India which upsets me. I mean who gave him that assumption. Next in that daily soap of News Hour what you get is noise period. No news at all. Nobody gets a chance to complete their sentence except the anchor. God knows how this can be a debate if nobody gets to speak properly. It ends up as a fish market with no substance coming out. The worst part is in a debate the anchor should be neutral but in this Noise Hour the anchor already takes a side and then whatever happens after 1 hour he concludes what he thought before the debate started.
  1. All media houses are end of the day connected to some political party or corporate house. Hence, it is a big problem to churn out genuine neutral angle of news from them. For eg.Shobhana Bhartia is Chairperson and Editorial Director of the Hindustan Times Group, who was a member of Rajya Sabha and a Congress woman. Barkha Dutt and Vir Sanghvi linked with radiagate scandal (as per sources available in internet) are virtually Congress spokesperson. News24 Hindi media owned by Rajiv Shukla, famous Congress MP in Rajya Sabha, Union minister, industrialist, BCCI vice president and IPL chairman.NDTV’s promoters are Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy.Radhika’s sister Brinda Karat is a famous CPIM leader and Brinda’s husband Prakash Karat is the CPM Politburo General Secretary.

I can go on and on picking incidents reported by Indian media but I am sure I have made my point above. Now what can be done to improve this?

Well I can say stop watching or subscribing to these newspaper and channels. They will understand that people will not take whatever we show. I am sure there can be regulations where a newspaper or news channel must have to show good inspiring news 30-40% of the times in whatever medium they report it. When all people see good acts of fellow Indians they will be inspired to do well. We can also plan to start our own newspaper or news channel (those who have money) and report news as it is without adding opinion to it and let the audience decide what they understand from it. Nowadays it is all bad, gloomy picture painted 24 hrs. I am not living in denial that my country does not have problems. May be she has most in the world in terms of poverty, illiteracy. So please highlight those and not only about Lalit Modi for 15 days continuously. That guy is super rich. He gives a shit to India, enjoying life in princely style and will continue to do. But I am sure we are having lot of good work done also in India every day. Indian media unfortunately forget those to write or telecast. I do not have a clear solution to the problem but what I can say is Indian media is also responsible for building a strong developed nation to which it is not doing any justice at all.

The picture below is a nice conclusion of our current media 🙂
